Religious Education

Intent

At Highfield Schools, we want children to understand and respect different religions, beliefs and worldviews. Our RE curriculum helps children become curious, open‑minded and confident in discussing big questions about life, values and identity. We teach children to appreciate diversity and develop empathy, respect and spiritual awareness.

Implementation

  • RE is taught weekly using the Jigsaw Scheme, which provides clear progression and engaging resources.
  • Children learn about six major religions: Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.
  • Lessons explore beliefs, celebrations, traditions and how people live out their faith.
  • We use creative approaches such as storytelling, role play, discussion, art and practical activities.
  • Visits to places of worship and visitors from faith communities enrich learning and deepen understanding.

Impact

By the time children leave Highfield Schools, they will:

  • Understand a range of beliefs and worldviews
  • Show respect, empathy and curiosity about others
  • Discuss ideas confidently and respectfully
  • Make thoughtful, informed judgements about religious and moral issues
  • Recognise how beliefs influence people’s lives
