Intent
At Highfield Schools, we want children to develop a love of music through singing, playing instruments and listening to a wide range of sounds. Music builds confidence, creativity and enjoyment, giving children a meaningful way to express themselves.
Implementation
- Music is taught weekly using the Kapow Scheme, alongside bespoke resources, which provide clear, engaging and progressive lessons.
- Children learn to sing expressively, keep a steady beat, explore rhythm, understand musical elements and play tuned and untuned instruments.
- Lessons include listening to live and recorded music, composing, improvising and learning about musicians from different cultures and times.
- Enrichment includes workshops, performances, instrumental opportunities and class music projects.
- Activities are adapted so all children can participate confidently.
